Cynthia Cooper was the Vice President of Internal Audit at
WorldCom, later MCI. In 2002, she directed a team of auditors to
uncover $3.8 billion in fraud, which led to the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history, at the time. She was named one of Time magazine’s “People of the Year” for 2002, and successfully helped MCI emerge from bankruptcy in the following 2 years. She is the author of, Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower (2008), and famously donated profits from her book to high schools and universities for ethics education. We are eager for her to share her story and journey with our students, faculty, chamber family, and community as part of our
20th Annual College of Business and Social Sciences Symposium.
