Announces Fall 2017 Grant Cycle
The Living Well Foundation, a local non-profit Foundation in Ouachita Parish, announces the opening of a Fall 2017 Grant Cycle beginning August 15th with online applications accepted through September 30th. Grant awards will be determined in November 2017 by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and funding for the projects will begin in January 2018.
The priority for this grant cycle is “Access to Healthcare” with the programming focus of “ages 0-21; new or expanded programs with measurable impact for medical, dental, or behavioral health, including special emphasis on programs for nutrition and literacy”.
Applicants from the 8-parish service area, including Caldwell, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Richland, Ouachita, and Union Parishes, should be non-profit agencies, non-profit parish hospitals or healthcare settings, local government agencies, or state universities and community colleges. Focus to the communities’ under-served or under-insured populations and their health and well-being will be a determining consideration for project funding. “We are looking forward to reviewing applications to improve the health status of the population of the communities in northeast Louisiana. The Foundation’s resources are available for our local area, and the relationships to healthcare providers are important to us”, states Alice M. Prophit, President/CEO of the Foundation. All applicants are strongly encouraged to review the Needs Assessment for Region 8 as identified by the Office of Public Health and the Community Needs Assessment on the Living Well Foundation’s website.
The Living Well Foundation was created from the sale of Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe to IASIS Healthcare in 2006. The proceeds are invested, and grants and initiatives to improve the healthcare of the region are funded through the earnings on the assets. Since 2007, over $3,214,765 have been granted within the service area, and over $1,812,740 have been provided to school-based health centers. Other local support provided by the Foundation includes funding with the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) Department of Dental Hygiene for a mobile dental hygiene unit and a school-based dental hygiene clinic, and support for the ULM Autism Center.
