In a unanimous vote of its members, the Ouachita Parish School Board elected to relocate several district departments into one centralized location and better utilize school district resources.

A plan proposed by Ouachita Parish School Superintendent Dr. Don Coker would move four school system administrative locations into the current Ouachita Parish Alternative Center facility located on North 7th Street in West Monroe.

The new Ouachita Parish School Board offices will house the administrative and educational leadership and team members from the current Central Office (Bry Street, Monroe), Media Center (St. John Street, Monroe), Instructional Technology (Jackson Street, Monroe), and Instructional Annex (Thomas Road, West Monroe). Combining these departments into one location will streamline operations for the district.

The move will save in maintenance and operation costs of three of those facilities. “We are very excited to make this transition. Our goal is always to save dollars in the district without the interruption of programs for students,” said Superintendent Coker. “Utilizing facilities to their full potential will help reduce operating costs across the district. We plan to sell the existing buildings that will be vacated to achieve some of the funding for the project. West side tax funds and bond sales will help with any remainder.” The timeline for the move will see renovations taking place during the next year with occupation slated for summer 2019.
