A community concert is being organized to benefit the United Way’s Embrace Louisiana disaster relief fund to assist evacuees and those affected by Hurricane Ida. The concert entitled “Rock & Relief” will be held in downtown West Monroe’s Alley Park on Thursday, September 9, from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. The event will be free to attend and open to the public. Monetary donations to the Embrace Louisiana fund will be encouraged throughout the event’s duration. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs as seating will not be provided. Vendors will be on-site with food available for purchase.

Local musician Jordan Sheppard is coordinating the musicians who will perform at the concert.

“I’ve seen our community come together time and time again in times of need, particularly during natural disasters. Between the friends I’ve made being a professional musician and the generosity of the northeast Louisiana community, I felt passionately about organizing this concert for our south Louisiana friends in need.”

Musicians scheduled to perform include Jordan Sheppard and the Cypress Knees, Monty Russell and the Angel Oaks, Kirby Rambin and Dead Reckoning String Band, Dan Sumner, Josh Madden, Josh Farmer, Hidden Tracks, and The Vidrine’s. Other guest musicians are also expected to make surprise appearances.

All funds received through the Embrace Louisiana fund will be used to meet the basic needs of Hurricane Ida evacuees sheltering in Northeast Louisiana. Any Unused funds will be donated to United Ways in south Louisiana and those affected by Hurricane Ida. No portion of contributions will be used for United Way’s overhead or administration.

“This event is a great example of the enthusiasm and generosity our community has shown to help those impacted by Hurricane Ida throughout Louisiana,” said Janet Durden, President of the United Way of Northeast Louisiana. “Our Embrace Louisiana Fund will be made possible through the generous contributions of individuals and corporations over and above the vital dollars that are already being given.”

Event sponsors include Jim Taylor Buick GMC, the West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce, and the City of West Monroe.
